DIY Summer-Ready Natural Pedicure | Rocky Mountain Soap Co. Review

Rocky Mountain Soap Company's products laid out: foot butter, cool feet spray, serious scrub, foot soak salts, cuticle butter

Going to a spa is amazing, but it can be expensive and time consuming. Also, there may be no spas in your area that use the products you want (with all-natural and toxin-free ingredients!). And if you’re like me, skin and scent allergies can be a huge concern. The last thing I want is to relax at a spa and end up with an allergic reaction.  That’s when using products you are comfortable with at home for your own, personalized spa night can be really beneficial.

Soften and deodorize your skin.

The best way to do this is to soak your feet in warm water with ingredients that help freshen and moisturize your feet. Fir needle and grapefruit essential oil is great for deodorizing. To soften skin, chamomile is my go-to, but lemongrass will also do the trick. I love using the lovely Foot Soak Salt from Rocky Mountain Soap Co. because it contains these ingredients (and more) and goes the extra mile by combining them with epsom salt (which naturally detoxes skin).

Smooth away any rough patches.

You can use a pumice stone or any similar tool meant to clear away rough skin. When I really need to get my skin into shape, my go-to is a scrub that contains pumice. I love the Serious Scrub from Rocky Mountain because the pumice they use is pure volcanic pumice and very finely ground. The scrub also contains cardamom and blood orange because they are perfect for stimulating skin (and of course smelling great!).

Refresh your skin.

I love to use something cooling like peppermint. This is very relaxing and great as a final touch to refresh feet as much as possible. Peppermint is also great for circulation so if your feet are sore and tired it can reduce any swelling. A product I love for this is Rocky Mountain’s Cool Feet Aromatherapy Spray. I also carry this in my gym bag because it contains tea tree oil. Refreshing and antibacterial!

Lock in all the moisture.

Got some kind of body butter? Oil? Any kind of thick moisturizer will do! We want to lock in as much moisture as possible. For this I love Rocky Mountain Soap’s Foot Butter. I also love their Cuticle Butter, which is great for your fingers too. These products smell delicious and really pack a moisturizing punch. Since they are in stick format they are an easy, non-messy way to apply the product to your skin.

Prep and paint your nails.

The best way to finish off a pedicure is to make your nails nice and tidy. I normally put on thick socks and let my feet sit until the foot butter has soaked in. Then I push back my cuticles and shape my nails with a nail file. I keep it simple. I love using this kit by Tweezerman from Well.ca. You can also find a similar Tweezerman Nail Kit from Sephora. The stainless steel tools are amazing! The nail file that comes with the kit is the best I've ever used.

Before I apply polish I make sure there is no excess oil from the moisturizing products I used since this can make your polish not apply properly. I'll usually clean my nails with an astringent like all-natural witch hazel.

As for nail polish, you can always skip it since most brands are not completely free of chemicals. I haven't tried it yet, but Scotch Naturals Nail Polish (everything seems to be sold out -- It's that good?) seems to have the most clean polish out there. Right now (once and a while) I use Priti NYC 5-Free Nail Polish and 7-Free Nail Polish from Pacifica, as they are both free of the typical junky ingredients.
